| Personality |
| Depending on the person's personality, Hawke can be either an entertaining breath of fresh air or an insufferable renegade with a big mouth and a knack for being found in the center of a hurricane of trouble. While her friends tend to see her as the first, authority figures (with the debatable exception of Aveline) tend to view her as the latter. Hawke tries to meet most every situation with a joke and some snark, usually veering in the sarcastic and silly direction. Quite a few people when they first meet her must think that she's utterly bonkers, and likely wonder why she's so highly regarded before they see just how capable she is. Hawke's sense of humor is hit and miss to the extreme. Sometimes the jokes are hilarious, but they can be in terrible taste, and at other times they veer into the realm of cheesy dramatics. She's been known to even crack a joke to a nobleman holding the body of his murdered son. This earned her a fairly blunt "what the hell" from Aveline. Hawke's constant carefree attitude towards nearly everything (especially things that others consider to be serious matters) can make her frustrating to deal with. But it's all in good fun, even if Hawke is using that sense of humor to deliver a cutting verbal jab to someone who needs to shape up. It is her shield as well as her sword, and she uses her sense of humor to misdirect. She projects an aura of pride and confidence in herself, as well as a healthy dollop of unexpected honesty. She's not afraid to disagree with others, or let them know when she disagrees. She doesn't judge people, even so. When Hawke drops the jokes and gets to business, she is both emotionally perceptive and excellent at reading people. Several times through the game she manages to pick out exactly what's going on in someone's head, usually before they realize it themselves. Hypocrisy annoys her, as does whining, and she's not afraid to call others out on it. She doesn't pity anyone; instead she sympathizes, but at the same time challenges others to move past their hurts and reach their true potential. At the core of her, she always has people's best interests in mind. Hawke is also able to disengage from petty fights, to be the bigger person, which shows much more maturity than she'll ever admit to. Despite playing hard at being a clown, she's also the emotional backbone of her group and serves as a mediator throughout the game. They can always rely on her, and they know it. Hawke is extremely used to being the one people turn to in a crisis, and she does her damndest to be worth it, even if she can't always make everything all right. |
